WHR Calculator for Women

Why the result differs by sex

Female values differ in the formula itself, not just in interpretation. Women carry more essential body fat — roughly 10–13% against 2–5% for men — and every validated equation here uses a separate constant or coefficient for that reason.

Why WHR adds something BMI misses

BMI cannot tell you where fat sits, and location matters. Visceral fat around the abdomen is metabolically active and associated with cardiovascular and diabetes risk in a way that fat on the hips and thighs is not. The WHO treats a ratio above 0.90 in men and 0.85 in women as substantially raised risk, and the measurement takes ten seconds with a tape.

How to measure properly

Measure the waist at the narrowest point between the lowest rib and the hip bone, and the hips at the widest point of the buttocks. Stand relaxed, breathe out normally, and keep the tape level and snug without compressing the skin. Measuring over clothes or pulling the tape tight is what makes home readings inconsistent.

The formula

WHR = waist circumference ÷ hip circumference

Every result on this page comes from this formula. Nothing is rounded until the final display, so figures match a spreadsheet to the cent.
