Why velocity matters more than mass
Kinetic energy scales with the square of speed but only linearly with mass. Double the mass and you double the energy; double the speed and you quadruple it. This is the whole reason a 20 mph collision and a 40 mph collision are not twice as different but four times, and why speed limits do more for road safety than vehicle weight limits.
Checking the answer a second way
Kinetic energy equals the work done to accelerate the object from rest: W = F·d. A 10 kg mass reaching 5 m/s carries 125 J, which is exactly the work a 25 N force does over 5 m. Two routes, one number — that agreement is what tells you the formula was applied correctly.
