Field efficiency is where the hours go

Theoretical capacity assumes the implement never stops. Real operations lose time to turning at headlands, refilling, overlap and adjustments: 70–85% is typical for tillage and planting, and under 65% for small irregular fields. The difference between 90% and 70% efficiency is nearly a full working day per hundred acres.

What this page needs from you

This page asks for implement width in m, working speed in km/h and field efficiency as a percentage. From those it returns area covered in acres/h, together with in hectares per hour, hours for 50 acres, theoretical rate at 100% and time lost to turns and refills. Every figure updates as you type, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Rates are regional, and local advice beats a general figure

Soil type, rainfall, variety and season change the right answer more than the arithmetic does. Use this to plan and to check an order, and check the figure against your local extension service, agronomist or supplier before committing to a whole field.

The formula

ha/h = width (m) × speed (km/h) × efficiency ÷ 10

Every result on this page comes from this formula. Nothing is rounded until the final display, so figures match a spreadsheet to the cent.

How to use the Acres Per Hour Calculator
